Balanced Equation:
Balanced equation will appear here
A redox (reduction-oxidation) reaction involves the transfer of electrons between chemical species. Oxidation is the loss of electrons, while reduction is the gain of electrons. These reactions are fundamental in chemistry, occurring in everything from rust formation to cellular respiration.
Enter your unbalanced redox equation. Select the reaction medium (acidic, basic, or neutral). Choose whether to display oxidation numbers and half-reactions. Click "Balance Reaction" to get the balanced equation with detailed steps.
The method for balancing redox reactions differs based on the medium. In acidic solutions, we use H⁺ and H₂O, while in basic solutions, we use OH⁻ and H₂O. The calculator automatically adjusts the balancing process based on your selected medium.
For the reaction Fe + O2 → Fe2O3, the calculator identifies Fe as the reducing agent (oxidation) and O2 as the oxidizing agent (reduction). It then balances atoms, charges, and electrons to produce the final balanced equation.
